Village – and Family-specific Resettlement Action Plan for the Economic Rehabilitation of the Project Affected Families

The Government of Maharashtra, as a sequel to this above-mentioned basic study, subsequently assigned the Centre, the task of preparing a Resettlement Gaothan-wise and Project Affected Family specific Action Plan for the Economic Rehabilitation of the Project Affected Families, in the year 1995.  This Action Plan for the Economic Rehabilitation of Project Affected Families consisted of three components viz.

  • Financial Assistance for Irrigation,
  • Financial assistance for Housing repairs and,
  • Income-generating farm, off-farm and non-farm economic activities, which can be promoted and undertaken by the members of the Project Affected Families.

The Centre prepared this Action plan for about 8,500 families, which were covered under any of the three packages enlisted above.  In all 12 farm, off-farm and non-farm income generating activities were identified and suggested for promotion.  These activities were identified and suggested on the basis of certain important criteria such as:

  • Location of the Resettlement Gaothan.
  • Civic amenities and other infrastructure available in the Resettlement Gaothans.
  • Educational, social and economic background of the economically active members of the Project Affected Families.
  • Willingness and preferences of the target groups.
  • Training requirements and the existing institutional set up in this regards.
  • Bankability of the identified economic activities.
  • Marketing network and supports required for each of the selected and suggested activities and so others.
