Promotion of Vocational Training for workers through Industry Associations

With rapid technological development, the need to constantly upgrade the skills and knowledge of workers (both in industry and services) is increasing and no institution is fulfilling it adequately. The project, which is financed by the Swiss Government, through Indo-Swiss Vocational Training Trust, involves active participation of Industry Associations in this task. They are encouraged to develop industry specific training modules and deliver training with the help of experts and training institutions. Since this concept is entirely new in India and aims to cater to the needs of small and micro enterprises, the Centre is involved in the work of extension, guidance, monitoring and evaluation of such initiatives. The efforts of the Centre have shown very encouraging results and the concept promises to take roots in India. This assignment was carried out for the year 1998 to 2003.
