Employment Multiplier in Pune

This project was sponsored by the Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI).  It studied the process of employment generation in the city of Pune through the development of ancillary, small and medium industrial enterprises, which came into existence as a result of the setting-up of large industries.  This exercise further attempted to estimate the size of  “Indirect” employment generated in the local area for each of the employees “Directly” recruited by the large enterprises.  The nexus between the industrial and employment growth and the concomitant population growth, besides the geographical expansion of the city of Pune, were studied in details. The study made an important theoretical contribution to the Employment Multiplier concept and also provided practical guidelines for the location of industries. Its findings are published by the Centre.
