Finances of Local Bodies and Panchayat Raj Institutions in Union Territories of Daman & Diu, Dadra-Nagar Haveli, Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep

As a sequel to the study conducted in Maharashtra, the Finance Commission for the Union Territories of Government of India assigned Centre a study of Finances of Local Bodies and Panchayat Raj Institutions in Union Territories of Daman & Diu, Dadra-Nagar Haveli, Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep in 1997. Phase I of this involved a brief revised of the present status of Panchayat Raj Institutions and Municipal Councils of the 4 union territories. Phase II involved the preparation of the proposed plan for devolving the various responsibilities and funds to the local bodies i.e. Study of Panchayat Raj Institutions and Municipal Councils of the 4 union territories. These recommendations were also included in the report of the Finance Commission.
