Finances of Village Panchayats in Maharashtra

The First Finance Commission of the Government of Maharashtra assigned the study on “Finances of Village Panchayats in Maharashtra” in 1996. This study of the finances of village panchayats of Maharashtra involved analysis of the data collected from a sample of 840 village panchayats, 43 Panchayat Samitis and 5 small Municipal Councils. The study proved to be a pioneering one and recommendations of the Centre based on this study were incorporated in the report of the Finance Commission.
